The Waiting Queue collective action for involved artists and a consenting public
A collective action project, a structure that can accommodate micro-performances within a given space and time. The structure: a queue; the place: the entrance of a contemporary art museum; the time: one hour; the main action: waiting; secondary action: according to the suggestions of the active participants; active participants: people taking part consciously; passive participants: visitors to the museum. Suggestions received for the MAMCS: Chinese whispers, public massage, drawing chalk lines for a more efficient queue, instant photo-souvenirs, dusting, fortune cookies.... My action: during the hour of waiting, I made the museum door turning around - both an entrance and an exit. (The entry of the artistes) The queue is an ephemeral social and spatial organisation in which people are grouped together in the chronological order of their arrival, awaiting their turn for something. During the wait people bond, relate to each other, their temperaments are revealed, information is passed around. Neighbours of an hour, confidantes of an afternoon, spontaneous orators, somniferous storytellers. |
