All's Well audiovisual installation During a residency at the art centre Langage Plus of Alma (Quebec/Canada) in 2005, I had a shop window giving on to a main street at my disposal. I decided to project a video there every night. I called this series Drive (me) in, inspired by the American drive-in culture, which goes from fast food to marriage and cinema. Today, one can watch movies projected in large parkings, without getting out of your car, and even get married that way. I projected some videos designed for this format. But the very few passers-by of Alma were quite indifferent to my videos, so I decided to create a video especialy for them. My eyes, filmed in extreme close-up and projected in a large scale on the window, attracted attention this time; the eyes moving from right to left of the street following the passing cars were very disquieting. A night watchman who seemed to say that all was well in the quiet little city and that the citizens could sleep in peace while he stayed awake and seemed to survey, even spy - attentive to the smallest movement. |
